Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Mirco Cro Cop 2 | Long Island MMA
Set to take place on UFC Fight Night this Saturday, Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Mirco Cro Cop is quite interesting. For Gonzaga this fight will be an affirmation of his dominant victory in their first meeting. For Cro Cop this fight is all about redemption! When these two heavyweights last met their bout ended suddenly and with the utmost surprise. Gabriel Gonzaga was able to finish Mirco Cro Cop with his own signature technique, that which had defined his MMA career particularly during his time fighting for Pride Fighting Championships; after being dominated on the ground for the entirety of the first round he was knocked out with a devastating right head kick just shy of the bell.
For Mirco Cro Cop there are a couple of key factors that should certainly be taken into account in this rematch. The first one would be for Mirco to open up with his striking. In their first bout Cro Cop only threw one straight right and one round kick the entire fight. Being that his base and strength is his striking it would make sense that he should use it to take control of the fight the second time around. The second factor is in regards to his movement and footwork. Mirco is a southpaw and Gonzaga is an orthodox fighter; for the duration of the first round each time Gonzaga would engage him Cro Cop would consistently circle to his left. This undoubtedly is the reason that Gonzaga was able to set up the round kick that ended the fight. The second time around Cro Cop should certainly consider mixing up his movement patterns and if possible avoid circling towards the power side of Gonzaga.
Lastly, it is extremely likely that Cro Cop will once again be on the receiving end of a takedown from Gonzaga and for their rematch working takedown defense and maintaining an active guard should he be taken down are of the utmost importance. Cro Cop was cut by one of Gonzaga’s elbow strikes from the guard. Gonzaga’s ability to consistently strike Cro Cop could be attributed to his lack of movement on the bottom. Come UFC Fight Night on 4/11/15 we will see if Mirco Cro Cop has made the necessary adjustments to achieve redemption against Gabriel Gonzaga!

Marcos "Loro" Galvao Vs. Joe Warren | Long Island MMA
This Friday March
27th at Bellator 135 a man will receive a second chance; something
that doesn’t come easily or often. That man is Long Island MMA fighter Marcos “Loro”
Galvao. Having been robbed of the bantamweight title back in 2011 after an
extremely controversial decision loss to the current champion Joe Warren, he is
back and he is prepared to capture that which is rightfully his. Their first
meeting consisted of an extremely entertaining combination of crowd pleasing
exchanges as well as aggressive grappling and clinch work. Surely to the surprise
of the current champion and his following, Loro was able to best the man at his
own game taking Warren down from within the clinch.
Having taken
Warren down Loro was able to apply his greatest strength, his Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu. He was able to take the back of Warren and land several devastating strikes.
The striking game was not much better for him. Joe Warren used consistent
forward pressure and aggressive striking however, he was walking right into the
skilled counter striking of Loro, counter-striking that was both effective and
creative; as in several flying knees! The fact that the judges gave the
decision to Joe Warren was a travesty. Now it is 2015, four years later. Four
years of hard training to destroy the man that has been wearing the belt stolen
from him. Marcos Galvao is on the war path and Joe Warren had better hope that
he has improved significantly since their first meeting or we can all expect to
see Marcos “Loro” Galvao reign
victorious AGAIN.

Al "M0ther#ucker" Jones' Next Fight | Long Island Mixed Martial Arts
Long Island Mixed Martial Arts has been
putting out very impressive talent since their arrival on the MMA scene. One of
the newest fighters out of Long Island’s premier MMA facility to make his
professional debut was none other than Alfred Jones. Alfred had carried an
undefeated amateur record of 7-0 before his move to the professional stage.
Each of these bouts labeled him as someone to be feared. Each fight was a showcase
of his vicious striking ability and all ended via KO or TKO. Alfred Jones made
the decision to turn pro and compete for the CFFC (Cage Fury Fighting
Championships) at their 41st event. Alfred shocked the fans by not
only showcasing his enhanced wrestling abilities, but his superior grappling!
He won his professional debut against Noel Arcibal via Brabo Choke in the third
round of the bout.
Alfred Jones next fight for the CFFC will
be taking place at CFFC 44 This will be Al's second Professional Fight with this organization. This opponent undoubtedly has their
hands full with a fighter as well rounded as Jones. Alfred trains with world class coach Gregg DePasquale whom also
trains the likes of Chris Wade and Dennis Bermudez, who are both UFC fighters. He is surrounded
by a tough team and having proven in his debut that he is not only a striker
one can imagine the statement that sent to the division. Whereas some might
have once said “Al Jones is a dangerous striker” they now say “Al Jones is
dangerous” and he will continue to prove he is a dominant force in the division
come CFFC 44.

Billy began training at Long Island MMA and immediately started helping out all of our MMA fighters with their Jiu Jitsu.
When I began training with Billy I noticed some of my usual Jiu Jitsu tricks didn’t work on him. That was because Billy uses tips and tricks similar to the one he shares with us in this video.
Billy also runs an informative website called Training for MMA fitness. For more quick tips and tricks from Billy check out http://trainingformmafitness.com/

Ryan is one of the main coaches here at Long Island Mixed Martial Arts, always offering his superior knowledge and years of experience in each class he teaches. LaFlare Co-owns the gym alongside Greg Depasquale who is also a main instructor here at our state of the art facility.
Greg (also known as coach Depo) is a high level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and one of the best overall mixed martial arts coach’s around. Long island MMA is widely known for constantly winning at many local and east coast competitions , a high percentage of that is due to coach Depo’s dedication to the gym and hands on training during his classes.

Long Island MMA's Chris Wade gets the call from the UFC!
Its official Long Island mma’s long time lightweight prospect Chris Wade will be making his UFC debut on August 30th on the undercard of Dillashaw vs barao 2. He will be the first fight to kick off the event in Sacramento, California. This will be Chris’s first fight on the UFC stage and he will be taking on fellow newcomer Cain Carrizosa (6-0) who is also making his debut on the big stage.
Anyone
who knows Chris Wade knows how much heart and work ethic he has and that this
was a long time coming for the long islander. Chris started as a well credential
wrestler but has made the full transition into a talented young MMA fighter ,
picking up skills in Jiu-jitsu and
striking. Chris has finished multiple fights by submission that was started by
his advanced wrestling and striking techniques.
Chris’s
opponent Cain Carrizosa is a undefeated prospect also looking to make a leap
into the big show on the UFC stage. Cain, with two ko’s, two submissions, and
two decisions so far in his professional career proves that he is a well
rounded fighter and can possibly get it done anywhere. The lightweight prospect
will have the advantage of fighting in his home state of California but surely
we all know Wade is mentally tough and this should have very little effect on
Chris.
This
might be Chris’s debut on the big stage but this is not Chris’s first time
training for a big fight. Chris held the lightweight title and has successfully
defended his title in the Ring of Combat promotion in Atlantic City. Ring of
Combat is a major talent pool for fighters on the east coast and has catapulted
many fighters and big names into the UFC such as guys like Chris Weidman, Matt Serra, Franky Edgar, fellow teammate and
Long Island mixed martial arts co-owner Ryan LaFlare, and many others. This
will play into Chris Wade’s favor as he not a stranger to being in the
spotlight or competing under pressure.
Chris
has been working for this opportunity for a very long time and is training very
hard to make his dreams a reality. With the help of an elite team here and the
Long Island Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness Center and Wade’s determination, it
would be nearly impossible for Chris to not walk away with his first win in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship and get the recognition he deserves. Chris
trains with elite level guys such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and head instructor here at LIMMA Greg
Depasquale, featherweight rising talent Dennis ‘the Menace’ Bermudez , UFC
welterweight Ryan LaFlare, and many other talents here at the gym in Farmingdale,
New York.

The Best MMA Gym On Long Island
Mixed martial arts is probably one of the most popular sports these
days. It has been around for quite a long time, and is a mix of martial
arts, boxing, and even wrestling all rolled into one. There are more
and more MMA events happening around the country at any one time than
many other physical contact sports. Some of the martial arts that are
involved with MMA are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Taekwondo, and Judo. If you
want to get into this sport, whether you are a beginner who is
interested in starting from scratch, or more knowledgeable and want to
hone your skills, finding the right gym is important.
If you live in the Long Island, New York area, the Long Island MMA gym is the first place you should go. There are a number of different reasons that this is the best MMA gym in the area, and there are plenty of advantages to using their facilities. These could take up much more space than we have here, but let’s look at some of the major reasons to use this gym. Let’s start with the types of MMA techniques and training they provide. One of these is Long Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
BJJ is the art of the ground fight, taken from the basics of Judo. Basically, this fighting technique allows a smaller person to be able to take down and subdue someone much bigger and heavier. You are first taught techniques that use leverage to knock your opponent to the ground. You have a number of different ways to do this. Leg sweeps are a good start, but anything that puts them in an awkward position can get them down. The next step is using submission joint locks and chokeholds to get them to submit. The difference between regular Jiu Jitsu and Long Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that there is a lot of experimentation with new and different takedowns, joint locks and holds that are unconventional, keeping your opponents on their toes. In addition to learning these methods, you are also taught techniques to get you out of many conventional moves to keep yourself on top of the situation.
Another reason to join this gym is the trainers. If you want to be the best, you have to be trained by the best, right? The Long Island MMA gym features some of the country’s best fighters who have come here to share their knowledge and experience with other people who want to learn to fight MMA. One of these trainers is Gregg DePasquale. While he specializes in BJJ and submission grappling, he really is a jack of all trades, having been trained in mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, and wrestling.
If you want to learn nothing but mixed martial arts, Ryan LaFlare is your man. He is an undefeated MMA fighter, is the currently under contract with the UFC. He has more than twenty years of experience in wrestling, and has great submission and strike skills. These are just a few of the qualifications that make him a great person to train with.
Who hasn’t heard of Herman Williams? Coach Herman Williams is a world class boxing instructor who originally started his training in Martial Arts, and ultimately a Martial Arts competitor. In 1984 coach Herman turned his attention to boxing, and has been heavily involved in the sport ever since. Coach Herman's deep understanding of both Boxing and Martial Arts make him a great striking coach for anyone interested in MMA.
The Long Island MMA gym is also home to many MMA fighters. In addition to fighter/trainers Ryan LaFlare and “The Menace” Dennis Bermudez, top ranking fighters like Chris Wade, and even top ranking female fighter from Smithtown, Chrissy Yandolli, fight and train here.
So as you can see, these are just some of the reasons the Long Island MMA gym is the best gym on Long Island. This facility is one of the largest in the country and has a number of scheduled events running all the time, so you can visit and see what’s going on before you decide. This facility is not only the fastest growing and most popular gym in New York but also for most of the East Coast.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Still Winning After All These Years
After Saturday nights Strikeforce event in San Jose California there is little room for any question of whether Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is still relevant in Mixed Martial Arts. Three of the four televised fights of night ended in submission.

· Jacare Souza defeats Robbie Lawler via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 3, 2:00
· Roger Gracie def. Trevor Prangley via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 1, 4:19
All three of the above MMA fighters are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelts. If you are interested in learning Mixed Martial Arts it is crucial to learn the submission game. At Long Island MMA and Fitness Center we cover ALL aspects of the MMA game, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Long Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) and No Gi Jiu Jitsu.
Also, stay tuned for Gian Villante fighting at Strikeforce’s next event Strikeforce and M-1 Global Present Fedor vs Silva Saturday February 12th, 2011 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
