Nate Diaz gets the golden ticket to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 196

Yesterday news broke that Rafael Dos Anjos was out of the UFC 196 super-fight with Conor McGregor. There was no shortage of people who lined up to get the fight with Conor McGregor; amongst the list of the possible contenders was Long Island MMA’s Chris Wade. Unfortunately Chris Wade was not the winner of the Conor McGregor fight but instead just as Long Island MMA predicted Nate Diaz will step in for the injured Dos Anjos and challenge McGregor.

UFC president Dana White revealed late yesterday that Diaz would step in for RDA. Dana also revealed that not only will Diaz be fighting McGregor but he will be fighting him at 170lbs instead of 155lbs the weight he was going to fight RDA at.

According to the UFC’s president the fight was also offered to both former featherweight champion Jose Aldo and fan favorite Frankie Edgar who both turned it down.

Although Long Island MMA would prefer to have seen RDA vs McGregor we are excited to hear the verbal fight before the physical one on March 5^th!

With Rafael Dos Anjos out of UFC 196 fight Long Island MMA’s Chris Wade throws his name into the hat to Fight Conor McGregor.

Today it was reported by many news sources that Rafael Dos Anjos is out of the fight with Conor McGregor. RDA suffered a foot injury that will most likely sideline him from the March 5^th super fight against fan favorite and UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

With only 11 days until UFC 196 the list of prospects to fight Conor are slim, Twitter is clamoring for Donald Cerrone or Nate Diaz to take the fight since both opponents are down for a scrap any time. 

Well there might be another man who is more than willing to fight the “Notorious” one, Long Island MMA’s Chris Wade announced today on Twitter that he was more than willing to head down to Las Vegas on March 5^th and try to take out the sport’s biggest draw.  

Out of all the options available Donald Cerrone, Nate Diaz or Wade, Long Island MMA believes that Chris has the best chance to beat the 145lb champion because of his strong wrestling and grappling ability. We suspect the UFC will pick Diaz because of the trash talking aspect but we can dream can’t we?

The biggest MMA fight in history was set to for Saturday march 5^th in Las Vegas, Conor McGregor the UFC featherweight champion of the world was set to fight Rafael Dos Anjos the UFC’s lightweight champion. This fight was going to be the first time two current UFC champions faced off inside the octagon.

However there have been multiple reports today saying Rafael Dos Anjos is out due to a foot injury. The UFC has not made any official announcements about the fight but a broken foot will side line RDA. It is also unclear if McGregor will stay on the card, but Long Island MMA believes it is more than likely that Conor will fight on the card.

This is not the first time something like this has happened to Conor, on July 11^th 2015 Conor was set to face the Jose Aldo who held the 145lb belt, but Aldo was sidelined. The UFC offered Conor Chad Mendes an almost complete opposite stylistic match up and Conor took that fight without hesitation. So if we had to guess we would imagine Conor would fight someone at 155 on March 5^th the question is who?

Will the UFC have their First Simultaneous, Multi-Division Belt Holder?

There is no denying that Connor McGregor has been taking the UFC by storm.  His self-belief is like no other, always seemingly biting off more than he can chew, just to prove to everyone that he was right. From his bold statements to his bold outfits, he has been able to catch the eye of media and fight fans around the globe.  Love him or hate him, he has proven that he can back up all his talk with 18 out of his 19 professional wins being finishes, most of which with strikes.  Now that McGregor defeated Jose Aldo to become the new UFC Featherweight Champion, he is immediately taking shots at champions of other divisions.  McGregor has his next bout with the UFC Lightweight Champion, Rafael dos Anjos, scheduled for March 5th 2016 at UFC 196.  This is going to be a big fight for both of the individuals.  If McGregor wins he will be the first simultaneous, multi-division belt holder the UFC has ever had, and if Rafael dos Anjos can be the one to defeat Connor, his pay, popularity, and reputation should skyrocket. Dos Anjos is a true veteran of the UFC, coming up on his 8th year with the company, his first fight being at UFC 91 in November of 2008.  RDA has more wins under his belt than McGregor has fights.  Looking back on Rafael dos Anjos, you can see how his game evolved into him becoming the strong dominant fighter that he is today.  RDA has wins over many of the greatest in the stacked lightweight division, where everyone on the top 15 list has championship potential.  Rafael finished former lightweight champion Benson Henderson, and also finished Donald Cerrone who was on an 8 fight win streak.  RDA took a unanimous decision over the talented Nate Diaz, and dominated Anthony Pettis for 5 rounds to become the UFC Lightweight Champion.  He is definitely no push over, and has earned his place at the top of his division. Is Connor up for the test?  It seems as if 155 is a more comfortable weight class for the Featherweight champion, but he hasn’t fought at lightweight since 2012, and has never competed at that division in the UFC.  There is no question about Connor’s skills anymore, he talks a big game, and has backed it up, but his fight with Chad Mendez exploited some of McGregor’s weakness.  Can Rafael dos Anjos manhandle McGregor the way Mendez did, without getting knocked out?  We did see what he is capable of against an elite, flashy striker in his fight with Anthony Pettis.  McGregor, or “Mystic Mac” as he refers to himself, boasts of a first round finish over the Lightweight Champion, and has even called out the Welterweight Champion, Robbie Lawler, for his next fight!  Did Mcgregor reach his limit yet?  It’s hard to doubt a man that has not been proven wrong, tune in on March 5th to witness UFC history in the making!
